Report of the 1999 Season

THE TOMB OF AKHIMENRU (TT 404)

This year we received permission to work in the tomb that Akhimenru built in the unfinished northern part of the corridor surrounding the subterranean structure of the tomb of Harwa. We made a thorough survey of the monument, making a complete set of pictures to document its state of preservation. On top of the debris covering the floor of the pillared room, we found limestone fragments with hieroglyphic texts clearly coming from the decoration of the tomb of Harwa. These findings demonstrated the importance of working in the tomb of Akhimenru before planning the reconstruction of the tomb of Harwa. As excavations in the tomb of Akhimenru could begin only after opening one of the two doors leading into the open court of Harwa, we decided to start next year.
