The "Harwa 2001" ONLUS
Cultural Association presents Report of the 1996 Season |
INTRODUCTION The archaeological campaign of the Civiche Raccolte Archeologiche (Archaeological Museum of Milano, Italy) in the Tomb of Harwa lasted from October 28th to November 8th, 1996. The main goal was to collect data needed to plan a large project involving the complete excavation and restoration of the monument. This project will be presented in more detail and will be discussed with the members of the Supreme Council of Antiquities at the beginning of next year. The hope is to accomplish this task in as little time as possible, thereby restoring a tomb that is vitally important to our knowledge of the history, art, and style of the XXVth Dynasty. I am very proud to present here the results of this campaign which were more successful than the most optimistic of expectations. I would like to thank the staff of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Inspectorate of Qurnah, namely: Dr. Mohammed Nasr, General Director; Mr. Nur, Chief inspector; and Mr. Ali Abd el-Gelil, Inspector. All of them were immensely helpful, facilitating the accomplishment of a large amount of work in a very short period of time. |
