INTRODUCTION
The 2002 autumn season of the Civiche Raccolte
Archeologiche of Milan Mission to the tombs of Harwa and Akhimenru
started on October 26th, 2002 and ended on January 13th,
2003. The activities were suspended from December 4th to 14th,
2002 for the celebration of Ayd.
During
the first part of the season, we completed the building of the plywood
pillars in the First Pillared Hall of the tomb of Harwa, where epigraphic
activities were continued. A complete re-examination of the finds made
during the 1996-1998 seasons was carried out in advance of the publication
of the preliminary report on excavations in the First Subterranean Level.
The southern part of the corridor surrounding the tomb was provided with
shelving for the storage of pottery and fragments of stone.
In the
second part of the campaign the two rooms (the easternmost already partly
cleared during the 2001 campaign) at the bottom of main shaft of the tomb
were excavated. Epigraphic activities and re-examination of the finds
continued.
